Our Wedding Day

Ryan and I were married in the St. George Utah Temple the morning of January 2nd 1999. It was such a beautiful day. Our sealing time was at 11 in the morning. I was also taking my out endouments, so this was to be a really big day but very important to me. I was really happy that so many family and friends could be there. I remember waking up at 5 am to get ready. My mom was there by my side to help fix my hair and help with anything I needed. I felt very blessed to have her support and love.

At the temple we parked our car in the church parking lot across the street from the temple. Grandma and Grandpa Wolsey were there in their RV. The Spelts crew walked up to the temple with us. They loved my hair and said kind things to me. It made me feel really good. The spirit was so strong in the temple. I was very emotional and had a hard time holding back the tears. I was so happy to finally be marring Ryan in the temple for all time and eternity. Our journey to get there was really long and hard. (Well it felt like it anyway). Our sealing room was filled with family and friends. I couldn’t help but think of our children that might have been there with us at that moment. What a neat experience that was for us. One I hope I will never forget. After the ceremony we went into our separate rooms to primp and prepare ourselves for more pictures and the celebrations. I was all decked out in my beautiful white gown, my hair looking like a princess and shoes to match. As I walked out there was my handsome husband waiting for me. He told me how beautiful I was and gave me a kiss. He seemed very calm and helped me to slow down and enjoy the moment (I hate making people wait). We slowly walked out the temple doors holding hands as husband and wife. I felt like a princess walking out of a castle with her prince by my side. Our family and friends cheered for us. I personally couldn’t stop smiling. I was so happy. We took pictures for about an hour with our family and friends. Ryan and I felt very grateful that we took our couple pictures in front of the Temple the day before. We were tired as it was.

Ryan and I walked out the temple grounds toward our car and realized that our car was all decorated. Ryan’s buds put everything imaginable on it. We found gummy bears months after. They did a great job. As we drove our car towards our lunch destination random people honked and waved to us. It was a fun time. I loved the attention.

Lunch was next. My parents rented the old Opera House (In St. George) for our luncheon. It was so perfect. Lunch was wonderful. We had just our family and friends there. It was small and simple the way we like it. Uncle Joel and his barber Shop group sang to us. They made everyone laugh. It was lots of fun. Mom and dad had a movie made for us with pictures of both of our lives up to that day. Everyone enjoyed seeing those. We cut the cake (Ryan smeared the cake on my face and a piece of it went down my dress. And I was so kind to him. I had a feeling he was going to do that. Everyone laughed). We said our good byes around 1:00 in the afternoon and we were done. As we drove out of the parking lot Ryan said, “what should we do”? (in a scared voice) I said, ” Just drive”. We had a moment of jitters but then we were ok. Our hotel room was so nice. The Spelts fam put a fun basket of goodies and a dozen roses for me from Ryan. Ryan and his family are very good at details. We said a little prayer giving thanks for the wonderful day and then hit the sack. It was so wonderful being married. That night I had a fever and we had to go to the store for aspirin. Even though our day was very simple it was still a big day.

A week later Ryan’s parents held a reception for us in Las Vegas. They had the church’s gym transformed into a winter wonderland. Pine trees were everywhere with fake snow. It looked so pretty. So many people attended. So many that I didn’t know but that knew and loved Ryan. One thing that I regret about that day is that I didn’t fix my hair really fancy. My parents were in town and I was feeling a little blue. After that night they would be gone and Las Vegas would be my new home. I didn’t want my mom working for hours on my hair, but I think I would have looked prettier if I had. We received so many gifts from people. It was amazing. We got 3 bread makers, lots of Tupperware, and money. We were so grateful for everyone’s generosity.
